Caputo Excavating Donates Driveways to Three Local Veterans Clubs

Caputo Excavating in South Kortright chose the Stamford Veterans Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 6292 and the American Legion Post No. 1379, to receive the gift of a driveway, and company officials found other area businesses to support the contribution.

Caputo Excavating’s Raymond Hayes with Sabrina Caputo, owner of the company in Delaware County, have offered the gift of a safe driveway before. The project was initiated after an ambulance couldn’t reach a teenager having a seizure because of driveway conditions and the young man became disabled, Hayes said.

“This organization is made up of the very men and women who risked their lives and served our country so we can keep our great liberties and freedom,” Caputo said.

“We saw this opportunity not only as a way to help someone in need but also a way to help many people in need” Caputo said. “Our sole purpose is to give back to our community that has always given to us. … This year is special, with all going on in the world, our giving this gift to these brave individuals, with the help of others, is our best gift so far.”

Other areas businesses supported the gift. Support came from veteran Rodney Harris of Davenport, owner of A&R General Trucking, offered to donate gravel and truck it to Stamford; Brent Trimbell of Lasting Impression, Hobart, approached with donation of gravel; Billy Eklund of Eklund Farm Machinery, Stamford, offered use of equipment; and Caputo Excavating helper Christopher Paige also assisted with the project.

“All of these great people wanted to get on board and help this great cause,” Caputo said. “We have such a wonderful community and great folks in it.”
